It was disappointing the main trail was closed due to storms but we managed to find and enjoy some lovely spots while exploring. Def was a nice break from road trippin to FL!
Been here before a few times but it's been a few years. There is a lot of storm damage from Helene. The trails have many, many trees over them and the boardwalk. Tried to kayak up the river. Got half way up and a tree is down in it, too. Lots of work ahead for the park. Also hope they update the bathrooms. The one at the trails is absolutely disgusting. The one down by the lake isn't much better. The cleanest one is the one by the canoes. Also, yes there is a swimming area, but be aware this lake and river is loaded with alligators. I took video of one not 100 feet from swimming area. I saw 7 in one afternoon..... two were 6 foot, two were 5 foot, one 4 foot and two were 3 foot.
